Joomla London User Group - Meetup for March 2025

Join us for March's Joomla User Group London (#JUGL) meetup!

We have three sessions planned this month:

Herman Peeren: Using Joomla for Joomla users

We will look at different methods to create better documentation. This can be used for the improvement of the documentation both for Joomla's core and for your own extensions.

We'll present principles, like “Accept (some) Repetition In Documentation” (ARID), while eliminating content overlap between separate sources. How to make documentation discoverable, skimmable, cumulative, structured, targeted, complete, consistent, examplary, and more.

Daniel Dubois: TemplateJoomla - 30 months later

Feedback on that project, our achievement so far and what we expect in future

Geraint Edwards: First view of an enhanced Page Cache plugin for Joomla

The Joomla page cache renders pages very quickly but has many downsides, not least of which is that  'content' isn't cached for logged in users even if is doesn't change often or is the same for all users.  I'll demonstrate an enhanced version of the plugin that allows content to be cached for logged in users whilst still allowing dynamic modules to be rendered e.g. login modules, personalised content.  Keeping configuration as simple as possible, the goal is to allow page caching to be used far more than at present.  Good for the visitor and good for the environment!

With the upcoming PBF session on February 22nd, 2025 09:00 am, we thought we would revisit all the setup needed, to help you prepare for the session.

You can be a major part of the upcoming 5.3 release!

Schedule (UTC):

The event starts at 19:00 UTC on Tuesday, 18th March, and will run until 21:00 UTC.

  • 19:00 - Introductions, chit-chat, and news
  • 19:10 - Herman Peeren - Using Joomla for Joomla users
  • 19:50 - Daniel Dubois - TemplateJoomla - 30 months later
  • 20:30 - Geraint Edwards - First view of an enhanced Page Cache plugin for Joomla
  • 21:00 - Fireside chat, news, social, and wrap-up

Join us for this 2nd session of 2025, where you'll learn practical skills to enhance your Joomla websites and connect with fellow Joomla enthusiasts! Come help us wrap up the year with some great Joomla discussions.
