{slider My company has a Joomla site but we can't get hold of the developers, can you help?|closed}
One of the most common questions JUGL gets asked is to give advice on sites that have been previously built and supplied using Joomla.
There seems to have been a wave of developers who built sites but then "retired" and either left them unfinished or the clients without training or support.
Several individuals and groups from companies have come along to JUGL meetings to seek the answers to the question of 'what to do next?'.
If you have a site that is not patched to the latest version of Joomla, we will be happy to guide you in the right direction.
Unpatched sites are vulnerable to hacking attempts and it's in no ones interest to see them defaced. Joomla is a very secure and robust framework, alas humans are not so reliable in keeping software patched and upto date.
If you are unsure of doing the work yourself then we have several developers who regularly attend JUGL and who would be more than happy to take the work on as a commercial undertaking.
If you want to forward your details then please do contact JUGL on this link
{slider We have an old Joomla 1.5 site and been told we have to upgrade, is this true?}
You may need to upgrade if your hosting server is changing to a newer version of PHP.
You don't necessarily need to upgrade for the sake of it unless you need new functinality.
You can always attend one of the JUGL meetings where we can run through things with you.
{slider Do I need to be a user of Joomla to attend the meetings?}
No. All you need is an interest. No prior knowledge is needed.
{slider Can anyone come along to Joomla London User Group Meetings?}
Definitely, Joomla! London user group meetings are open to all.
{slider Do I need to be a programmer to understand what goes on at the meetings?}
No. Its open to all with all levels of interest. If we are chatting about a very specific problem that a member of the group has raised jargon may fly around but we make every effort to Keep It Simple (KIS).
If you don't understand then please, please ask. If it would take a while to explain and break the flow there are plenty who will be happy go through any questions at the break or after.
{slider Are there biscuits?}
Yep, usually but we make no guarantee. That's what the google adverts pay for. Often juice and sometimes even tea and coffee!!
{slider Why do you have google adverts on the site?}
We do not charge for the meetings or for any drinks / biscuits. One important part of website design and build is advertising. We thought it would be a good idea to show real life examples on the site and share the knowledge gained with the group. Over time different modules/components will come along and its useful to have a test account to use and see which system is best to display and use advertising.
Some months the funds generated cover the refreshments and some months they do not but the founders of the group thought it a good way to "show, tell, and taste".
{slider Is it Free?}
You can attend the meetings for free. The people who attend are not paid, and you will never be asked to pay to attend. Sometimes we go to the pub afterwards, that part is completely optional, and not free but we'd love to see you there.
